Mosaic Company - Is it on the block? Rumors of VALE’s interest surfaces.
NYSE Listed (Ticker:MOS) Mosaic company ,one of the major producers of concentrated phosphate and potash crop nutrients for the agriculture industry , saw it shares spiked 12% on heavy trading owing to the rumor that Brazil based second-largest mining company & largest iron producer VALE may bid $25 billon for Mosaic company. Vale’s interest viewed as mean’s to meet fueling demands for “fertilizer” with in Brazil, VALE already operates phosphate & potash mines and Brazil is one of the biggest importers of phosphate & potash fertilizers.
Last year MOS market cap reached as high as $60 billion (little above $160/share) and currently trades at $50 & change. Cargill, second largest private company in US owns more than 60% of Mosaic and has strong balance sheet, that begs the question, will the Mosaic exchange hands?
It also rumored that, BHP Billiton, world’s largest mining company might offer a counter bid should Vale bid rumor materialize.
