Is Dell “Smart” enough for a phone ?

Rumors have leaked around the web that leading PC Manufacturer Dell is taking a stab at building its own so called “smart” phone portfolio based on Google’s android mobile platform. Smartphone is viewed as one of the leading growth engine for the next decade - recently Palm Chief Executive and former Apple executive Jon Rubinstein announced in company’s quarterly conference call that Smartphone market is big enough to take 4 - 5 players with out one eating into other highlighting the potential for growth.

Currently Smartphone market is predominantly dominated by Research in Motion (BlackBerry portfolio ) , Palm (Pre - coolest gadget as of today & Treo portfolio) , Apple (IPhone ) & Nokia.  Though each of them rely on its own mobile platform , Dell has adopted to build upon Google’s Open source mobile-platform Android , currently in USA T-Mobile sells android based G1 device built by HTC.

Is Dell “Smart” enough for a phone?  Shortly we will know !!
